Modelers:
A very able modeler. It has a way of producing, very easily, high quality metaballs (handling easily tens of them simultaneously with a varying degree of smoothness– something important in making fluid or cloud like objects), making extrusions (for building tubes, pipes, tentacles etc) and deforming by use of bones. It has an exellent –though in need of some further development- sculpting tool too. And it is going to include, as it seems, a not so weak renderer:
http://www.ppmodeler.comStill the king of the free (to my opinon, of the commercial ones too) polygon modeler. It seems that all this wave of commercial polygon modelers existing today are inspired from it (in spite that it too is inspired from two older Japanese polygon modelers named ‘Nendo’ and ‘Mirai’). It’s a joy to use it.:
http://www.wings3d.com/The king of free sculpting modelers. Astonishingly easy in its use. Recently implemented in Blender too (the reason, unfortunately, of the stopping of its development as a stand alone app):
http://sharp3d.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/Main_PageA small but very able modeler from Japan. Its more advanced commercial version is enjoying, as they say, a wide popularity in Japan:
http://www.metaseq.net/english/index.htmlAnother great free modeler from Japan:
http://homepage3.nifty.com/escargot/MCLFrm.htmlA good app for animating too:
http://www.anim8or.com/A very rich patch modeler:
http://www.jpatch.com/?page=faqThe so well known commercial Truespace’s v.3.2, distributed freely (the only ‘problem’ is that once you download it you will have their advertisements in your inbox). Exellent booleans, metaballs etc. A very good -although somehow out of date, regarding its features- renderer too:
http://forms.caligari.com/forms/ts3all_free.htmlA formerly commercial, superb polygon and nurbs modeler (though a little bit unstable):
http://www.softsea.com/review/Amapi-3D.htmlThe well known free all in one app which can be considered as a ‘high end’ one. The only issue is to became familiar with its somehow bizarre working space, the only thing which prevents it from being seeing as a major threat from the commercial ones Smile
http://www.blender.org/Human figure producing apps:
An incredibly neat app for producing human figures:
http://www.dedalo-3d.com/Seashell like objects producing apps:
Three seashell like objects producing apps:
http://www.shelly.de/http://www.brycemania.de/filearea.htmlhttp://www.armanisoft.ch/webdesign/FrmDownloads.html3D trees producing apps:
Two very able tree producing apps (the second one though more unstable produces less polygoned trees, something important in handling them):
http://propro.ru/go/Wshop/povtree/povtree.htmlhttp://ngplant.sourceforge.net/Mathematical objects producing apps:
A mathematical object producing app of a very high quality and very easy in use:
http://k3dsurf.sourceforge.net/3D file converters:
The only so rich free 3D file converter:
http://www.wikipov.org/ow.asp?CrossroadsHomeA very able shareware 3D object converter with which you can convert the Povtree’s trees to obj files (an maybe the only one that can do such a thing between the freeware and shareware ones)
